Other Carriers Match American’s Fare Cuts: An air fare battle spread, with two major airlines rushing to match price cuts by American Airlines for the slow post-holiday season. The latest competition was triggered when American, the nation’s largest airline, said last week that it was cutting fares to Europe by up to 50%. For example, American’s round-trip ticket for a flight between Boston and London that cost $499 is now $318. Delta Air Lines and Trans World Airlines introduced similar cuts Monday.
