George Harrison Sues Tabloid for $200 Million

George Harrison sued a supermarket tabloid for $200 million Monday for allegedly publishing a story last month that paints the ex-Beatle as a devotee of Adolf Hitler and Nazism.

The defamation of character lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court alleges that the Globe of Boca Raton, Fla., described Harrison as an “admirer and a fan of Adolf Hitler and Nazism,” a man often spotted “wearing and strutting around publicly in a Nazi uniform” and “of displaying a huge Nazi flag in front of his home.” The story also was distributed in the British tabloid The Sun.

Entertainment lawyer Bert Fields, who has represented the Beatles in several lawsuits, said the guitarist who sang such songs as “My Sweet Lord” and “Something” just wants to clear his name.

“George is very much in favor of the lawsuit. He deplores everything Hitler stood for and can’t imagine anything worse they could have said about him than to say he was a Nazi sympathizer,” Fields said.
