Sierra Madre : No Vote on Hillside Zone

Share

Unable to resolve differences between two competing boundary lines for a new Hillside Management Zone, the City Council declined to vote Tuesday and returned the matter to a task force for further adjustments.

The Hillside Management Task Force has scheduled a public workshop to resolve the boundary problems at 10 a.m. Saturday in City Hall, 232 W. Sierra Madre Blvd.

The disagreement arose when the Planning Commission voted 4 to 3 Monday to establish the management zone boundary along property lines. Property owners had complained about the line drawn by the task force, which follows geographical and topographical features, using views as the primary consideration.

“It makes no sense that a 50-foot-by-100-foot lot is cut in half (by the zone),” canyon resident Miner Harkness said. Several other property owners said they could face difficulty obtaining mortgages for any property in two zones.
