Highland Park : Alatorre Endorses Project

Share

Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alatorre has endorsed a community plan to build a combined child-care center and artists’ village on a vacant city-owned lot at the corner of York Boulevard and Avenue 53. He also promised to seek city funds to pay for it.

The leaders of two community groups presented the plan at a meeting Dec. 5, several months after Alatorre asked them to reconcile their competing proposals for the lot.

Alatorre said he will ask the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency to find sources of money for the project, which would be overseen by a community committee.

The lot was purchased by the city 12 years ago for a fire station, but budget difficulties prevented the station from being built there.
