PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Burns Can Feel for Robinson

Share

Jerry Burns, who announced last week that he will resign as the Minnesota Vikings’ coach after this season, said he can empathize with what John Robinson is going through these days. Both coaches have struggled with underachieving teams.

“Our teams somewhat parallel each other,” Burns said. “John Robinson is a very, very good football coach. He’s won national championships at USC and he’s had a great career with the Rams, had them in championship games.

“So, maybe things aren’t breaking favorably for him now. You know, there’s a lot more that goes into winning than just preparing hard and playing hard. You can do those things, but it doesn’t always result in winning. There’s so many other factors involved, a call here, a dropped ball there, an injury here.

“But I respect John Robinson and think he’s done a great job for the Rams.”

Ram wide receiver Vernon Turner will miss Sunday’s game against the Vikings in Minnesota because of a rib injury. Darryl Henley will assume Turner’s punt-returning duties. . . . Mosi Tatupu, the oldest running back in the league at 36, was waived off injured reserve.
