A doctor accused of killing a woman by drugging her with chloroform at a Carlsbad, Calif., hotel so he could rape her was flown to San Diego Thursday to face prosecution.

Dr. Samson Dubria, 28, is charged with murder, rape and administering anesthetic to aid a felony in connection with the death of Jennifer Klapper, 20.

Two San Diego County sheriff’s deputies took custody of Dubria Thursday afternoon.

Dubria, a resident at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, had been held without bail at the Morris County Jail in Morristown, since his arrest on Dec. 5.

Klapper, a resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, was pronounced dead Aug. 16 after Dubria summoned paramedics to the Carlsbad motel. Dubria told authorities that Klapper died of natural causes after the two engaged in sex.

An autopsy failed to determine the cause of death, but toxicological tests showed she had been given a fatal dose of chloroform, authorities said.

San Diego County Deputy Dist. Atty. Tim Casserly said his office is considering seeking the death penalty against Dubria.

When interviewed by police, Dubria denied killing the young woman and said he did not know how she might have come in contact with chloroform, a chemical commonly available in most hospitals. According to court documents, Dubria suggested that he and Klapper may have driven past a truck carrying chloroform.
