FASHION : Hooked on Biker Look? See Harley

Share

Christmas shopping at a Harley-Davidson store is not just for biker dudes and mamas. Harley has inspired an international trend in biker wear this year, from Calvin Klein jeans ads that feature the look and lifestyle to Chanel adaptations of the macho leathers that go over evening gowns.

In fact, the biker fantasy has so pervaded the fashion world that the Council of Fashion Designers of America will present a special award to Harley-Davidson at a New York gala in February.

Many novelties in Harley stores are less than $10. An authentic leather motorcycle jacket reduced to key-chain size is $8.95. Classic men’s socks in black are discreetly decorated with the H-D logo and priced from $6.95. Boxer shorts in a motorcycle print go for $11.95.

A good selection of black leather gloves for guys is to be expected; the surprise is the number of beauties for women. One style in butter-soft brown leather is fringed and priced at $69.95.

There are housewares too. Among the most unusual items is a sugar and creamer set shaped like a gas tank and pump, for $34.95. A gold motorcycle ornament for the Christmas tree is a real find at $6.95.

The nearest Harley-Davidson stores are in Glendale and Culver City, where catalogues also are available. Stores vary their stock.
