Brasilia Population Soars

RIO DE JANEIRO —
The population of Brazil’s modern capital Brasilia has leaped by one-third in the last 11 years, and the 31-year-old city now has a population of 1.56 million, the government statistics office said. The figures are based on this year’s census.
