COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Bryant Starts in Master’s 68-56 Romp

Earlier this week, The Master’s College Coach Mel Hankinson predicted an exciting evening for the Joe Jon Bryant watchers who were looking forward to Bryant’s first start of the basketball season.

Bryant didn’t disappoint Friday night, making two stirring dunks in the first half and providing strength on defense all game to help raise Master’s to a 68-56 win over Point Loma Nazarene.

Master’s (5-3) pulled ahead with three minutes left in the first half when guard Damon Greer and forward Tom Bruner each made steals and layups to give Master’s a 41-31 intermission lead.

Master’s built the margin to 18 in the second half before settling for the 12-point victory.

Master’s limited Point Loma (3-5) to 41% field-goal shooting (22 of 54) while making 51% of its own attempts (27 of 53). Master’s also grabbed 24 defensive rebounds.

Stuart Epperson, a senior forward, led Master’s with 20 points. Teammate Greer had 10 assists and Bryant finished with eight points.
