No Unanimity in Plan for Wetlands

Share

Former Mayor John Erskine is not correct in asserting that the board of directors of the Amigos de Bolsa Chica unanimously endorsed the development plan for Bolsa Chica in 1989 (“The Wetlands Development Deal,” Letters, Nov. 24).

I was on the board of Amigos de Bolsa Chica in 1989 and have been since 1981. I consistently opposed the recently published “compromise” plan because of the 200 acres of wetlands that will be destroyed by the plan, as well as the road that is planned to cross the back of the wetlands, and the massive development on the Bolsa Chica Mesa and the rear of the lowlands.

The 2-year-old compromise, recently being touted as a new plan, has a few good features, such as the removal of the navigable ocean entrance and the marina. However, for those who want to save the Bolsa Chica, there still is a lot of work to do.
