Croatian Singer’s Anti-War Song a Hit in Australia
An anti-war song recorded by a Croatian pop star in his stricken homeland has reached No. 7 on the Australian Top 10 chart.
“Stop the War in Croatia” by Tomisla Ivcic has raced up the chart in the four weeks since its release and is making an unexpected impact with nationwide sales.
Royalties will be used to buy medical supplies to be airlifted to war zones in Croatia. The Zagreb-based Ivcic, at a news conference in Melbourne, stressed the money would be spent on treating victims regardless or race, color or creed.
Julie Milicevic, organizer of the record’s release in Australia, said more than 400,000 copies have been sold worldwide, including at least 50,000 in Australia, raising about $125,000.
