State Budget Deficit
Recently, Gov. Pete Wilson asked the Legislature to return to Sacramento for a special session during the holiday season to address California’s budget crisis by making emergency state spending cuts ( Dec. 11). Once again, the governor has proposed elimination of the renters tax credit. Loss of the renters tax credit amounts to a tax increase.
This is not the time for the governor to play Scrooge and raise taxes on the working men and women of California, who face the daily struggle to house and feed their families. A tax increase for those who rent rather than own their home should be rejected by the Legislature.
In January, when the governor releases his proposed state budget, we will diligently work with him to create a comprehensive, fair and bipartisan solution to California’s very real fiscal problems.
