Recession Fallout: Budgetary constraints have forced the Los Angeles Music Center Opera to postpone the costly production of “The Death of Klinghoffer” for one year, from next September until September of 1993. John Adams’ controversial opera, staged by Peter Sellars, had its world premiere in Brussels in March, its U.S. premiere at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in September, and now will be presented by the San Francisco Opera at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. A replacement on the MCO schedule has not yet been confirmed. The new “Klinghoffer” dates--five performances Sept. 28 through Oct. 10, 1993--will coincide with the next Los Angles Festival, also directed by Peter Sellars.
