Barbara Bush paid her husband’s filing fee Wednesday for the New Hampshire primary and then took a rare plunge into the political fray herself, blaming the nation’s economic woes on a do-nothing Congress.

“Nobody suffers more than George over the economy,” she said during a visit to the Statehouse in snowy Concord. “Congress ought to do something.”

Before leaving, she handed Secretary of State William Gardner the President’s filing papers and a $1,000 check to enter the Feb. 18 primary, the first in the nation.
