NATION IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Court Will Not Bar Term Limit Initiative
The Florida Supreme Court ruled that a proposal to limit terms for Congress members and state officials could go on the state’s ballot next November if organizers get enough signatures. Opponents had contended that Florida’s constitution cannot limit congressional terms because they are set by the U.S. Constitution. Organizers need 364,000 signatures by August to put the question on the ballot. They said they already have more than 135,000. Officials would be barred from appearing again on the ballot once they had served eight years or more in office.
