Less Sanguine Forecasts of California in the 1990s
James Flanigan foretells a halcyon tomorrow for California with a key ingredient being the continuous influx of immigrants, the majority being indigent Mexicans.
Meanwhile thousands of young residents flee as they see all around them a daily increase in the drug problem, graffiti and gang violence. The schools are deteriorating, and government-funded social and health programs are being overwhelmed. One can only imagine what it will be like 10 years hence.
Beyond this, all these newcomers, by their sheer numbers, greatly exacerbate our on-going problems such as smog, a water shortage and traffic congestion.
