J.J. Isler of La Jolla, with crew Pam Healy of San Francisco, sailed to the women’s world championship in the 470 dinghy class at Brisbane, Australia on Saturday.

There were 37 entries from 17 countries, including top contenders for the 1992 Summer Olympics. Isler and Healy, both 28, were already ranked No. 1 in the U.S., and this was the most important victory by U.S. women sailors since Allison Jolly of Long Beach and Lynne Jewell-Shore of Newport, R.I. won the 470 class gold medal at Pusan, South Korea in ’88.

Isler and Healy, with finishes of 1-3-3-5-6 in five races, had 33.1 points to defeat favorite Larisa Moskolenko of Ukraine, who had 35.7.
