Two-for-One Trip: Ailing film director Satyajit Ray may schedule a medical trip to the United States in March so he can personally accept an Oscar for lifetime achievement. Ray, 70, has had recurring heart problems since he had a heart attack in 1984 and has been treated in California. Earlier reports said Ray would skip the Academy Award ceremonies, but he told Press Trust of India in an interview this week that he hoped to be able to combine the Oscars with his medical checkup. He said the Oscar was the climax of his career, “because it is the equivalent of the Nobel Prize for a filmmaker and one cannot go beyond that.”

Billboard magazine’s pop album chart will not appear today because of the Christmas holiday.
