RUNWAY TO REALITY : Something Smashing for a New Year’s Bash

Share

It’s like a dress from a painting by Goya. And it has “New Year’s Eve” written all over it.

New York designer Arnold Scaasi made such a creation in coin-dotted black net for his holiday collection. It’s very fitted, with a satin ribbon belt decorated by a white gardenia and ribbon trim on the ruffled skirt. The off-the-shoulder neckline adds to the allure. This classic, demure dance dress has enough sparkle for any celebration. The price is $1,795, at I. Magnin, Los Angeles, the landmark store only.

If you like the look but spent your cash on Christmas, head to Bridal City on Broadway, in downtown Los Angeles. Yolanda Rossi, the store’s owner and designer, can make a twirly-dress that almost passes for the high-priced version. Hers is cut from sequined stretch jersey and three rows of black lace, for the ruffled skirt. The off-the-shoulder neckline is a double flounce. The price is $150, and it can be made in time for Tuesday night if ordered today.
