From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A hospital in the ski resort town of Aspen will soon require AIDS tests for its staff doctors, going against mainstream medical philosophy opposing mandatory testing. Officials at Aspen Valley Hospital said that they are trying to bolster public confidence with the move, which the hospital’s 20 staff doctors unanimously agreed to last week. “An annual test will be a requirement for staff membership and privileges,” said Dr. John Freeman, president of Aspen Valley’s medical staff. Any health worker with a positive test may be required to work in non-risk areas.
