From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Eight people were arrested after several people demonstrating outside the White House scaled the fence and threw red ink, or blood, onto government property, police said. Arnold Cole, a Secret Service spokesman, said the eight were arrested on misdemeanor charges and told authorities they were members of the Community for Creative Non-Violence, an advocacy group for the homeless. Carole Fennelly, a spokeswoman, denied that members of her group participated in the actions. An anti-war group calling itself the Atlantic Life Community contacted the Associated Press and claimed responsibility for the protest.
