A 19-year-old Camarillo man accused of beating up his girlfriend and threatening her with a shotgun was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, authorities said Tuesday.

Lauren Soarer, 22, of El Rio received bruises on her face and body and was treated at St. John’s Regional Medical Center on Monday evening and released, authorities said.

Soarer’s boyfriend, Raymond Hopper, is being held in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail, said Rick Gatling, Ventura County sheriff’s detective.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about a disturbance in the 600 block of Corsicana Drive in El Rio about 10 p.m. Monday and were told by Soarer that Hopper had beaten her with his fists and feet after an argument, Gatling said.

“She also told them he had pointed a loaded shotgun at her and threatened to kill her,” Gatling said. Hopper left after the incident, Gatling said.

Deputies broadcast a description of Hopper and he was arrested about 30 minutes later on Mulberry Ridge Drive in Camarillo, Gatling said.

Hopper is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
