San Diego

A man who was struck and killed as he tried to retrieve his hat on a freeway was identified as a 26-year-old San Diego man who was chasing the hat because it contained the gas money for his wedding trip.

Terry Davies and his fiancee were driving Wednesday to Stockton, where they were to be married that day. On Interstate 8 near Hotel Circle, Davies' black hat, containing a $100 bill, blew off the dashboard of his car, officials from the medical examiner's office and the California Highway Patrol said.
