The Saddleback Valley Unified School District will hold a workshop tonight to discuss new statistics on student enrollment.
The district, which has more than 30 schools, grew by 1,400 students in the last year and by 1,000 students the year before, district Supt. Peter A. Hartman said.
At tonight’s meeting, district staff will update board members on enrollment statistics and projections. Members will discuss whether more new schools may be needed and whether boundaries should be changed “to even things out,” Hartman said.
The district opened a new elementary school in Rancho Santa Margarita a year ago and plans to open another in Lake Forest in September. A third elementary school under construction in Portola Hills should be open a year from now, he said.
In addition, the district is progressing with plans to build another intermediate school for seventh- and eighth-grade pupils in Rancho Santa Margarita.
The board will not take formal action tonight, Hartman said. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the district office, 25631 Diseno Drive.
