Two men who beat and robbed a KGTV (Channel 10) cameraman on assignment were sentenced to prison terms of seven and three years, respectively.

The Sept. 3 attack occurred at 11:40 a.m. when cameraman Richard Klein was working on a story about the Neil Good Day Center, a daytime shelter for homeless men, in the 200 block of 17th Street.

Klein was alone when four men approached him, knocked him to the ground and attempted to steal the expensive camera. Klein held on to the camera, but the men stole his watch.

Jorge Gargane Leon, 19, received the seven-year term Tuesday, which includes five added years because he has a prior conviction for a 1990 robbery in Los Angeles.

Enrique Jesus Vasquez, 19, was given the three-year term by San Diego Superior Court Judge William Mudd.

Both men were ordered to pay $500 to the crime victims fund from their prison wages. Klein’s watch was valued at $250, and he has not been reimbursed. He suffered minor scrapes and bruises but was not seriously hurt.

A third man was arrested in the case but was not charged.
