Household Hazardous Waste to Be Collected
The city of Los Angeles and Unocal Corp. are sponsoring a household hazardous waste roundup at the West Valley Municipal Building parking lot, 19040 Vanowen St., in Reseda from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The program is designed to give residents the opportunity to safely discard up to five gallons or 50 pounds of such items as unused paint, motor oil, pesticides and cleaning solvents such as varnish remover and nail polish.
Motor oil is recycled into supplemental fuel and tar by-products. Latex paint is recycled and reused for the city’s anti-graffiti program. Other solvents are reused for fuel blending.
