Reservoirs Are Getting Needed Rain, Plants

Southland reservoirs are enjoying a much needed replenishment of water as a result of the recent storms, and fishermen at several of them are enjoying some excellent trout action, aided by sizable Department of Fish and Game plants.

“We have some real large fish on hand here that we don’t have any need to keep anymore,” said Jim Adams, manager at the DFG’s Fillmore hatchery. “We save those fish specifically for the purpose of the beginning of the new calendar year, and because it’s very expensive to feed them and keep them any longer, we try to get them in the various lakes as soon as the new allotment year starts.

“So Casitas received a bunch of them, Piru received a bunch, Castaic received a bunch, Pyramid received a bunch. The bottom line is, they were already up to size and ready to go, and I needed the room here on the grounds to make additional room available for some smaller fish coming along.”
