William A. Walker, Retired Actor

William Arlen Walker, who worked in films and television as an actor and stuntman for more than 50 years, has died at a Lancaster hospital. He was 74.

A Littlerock resident, Walker died Saturday of complications of kidney failure, said his son, Grady Walker, of Fairview, Tenn.

Born in Portland, Ore., Walker came to California as a child. After his father died when he was 14, Walker was forced to quit school and work as a ranch hand in Kernville to support his family. He got his start in the entertainment business performing stunts in Western films that were shot on location in the area.

In the mid-1950s, Walker moved to Canoga Park and had small parts in films, performing stunts and doubling for leading men, such as Jimmy Stewart in “The Cheyenne Social Club” (1970). He also appeared in “Fools’ Parade” (1971) and “The Champ” (1979) and worked on television shows including “The Rough Riders.”

Walker is also survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Stanley Walker; sons Rock Walker of Leona Valley and Greg Walker of Acton; daughter Cindy Ocuto of Quartz Hill; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for noon today at Eternal Valley Mortuary, 23287 N. Sierra Highway in Newhall.
