June Storey; Starred With Gene Autry
June Storey, the petite photographer’s model who became one of Gene Autry’s most frequent leading ladies in the early series of music, mirth and adventure films that brought the multimillionaire businessman to popularity, is dead.
Alex Gordon, a spokesman for Autry’s Flying A Pictures, said Thursday that she was 73 when she died Dec. 18 of cancer in Vista, Calif., where she had lived for many years.
She appeared in small roles for 20th Century Fox after graduating from Laguna Beach High School and working as a model. She next was cast opposite the famed singing cowboy in 10 films, among them “South of the Border,” “Blue Montana Skies,” “In Old Monterey,” “Colorado Sunset” and “Ride Tenderfoot Ride,” all in the 1930s.
After Autry entered military service during World War II, she worked briefly at Columbia before retiring.
Survivors include her husband, Lincoln Clark, a sister, son, daughter and three grandchildren.
