NHL ROUNDUP : Hull’s 10-Game Streak Stopped by Devils, Who Get 4-3 Win

The New Jersey Devils stopped Brett Hull’s 10-game goal-scoring streak en route to a 4-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night at East Rutherford, N.J.

Hull, the NHL’s leading goal-scorer with 43, was coming off a three-goal game against the New York Rangers on Wednesday night. His streak was the longest in the NHL since the 1979-80 season, when Charlie Simmer scored in a record 13 consecutive games for the Kings.

Hull did pick up two assists, extending his point-scoring streak to a season-high 20 games.

Claude Vilgrain scored on a breakaway at 12:22 of the third period to put New Jersey ahead, 4-2. Ron Sutter scored at 15:30 for St. Louis, but the Blues couldn’t get the equalizer.

Detroit 9, Minnesota 4--Paul Ysebaert, Jimmy Carson and Bob Probert each scored two goals as the Red Wings beat the North Stars at Detroit.

Probert added two assists and Ysebaert one. Steve Yzerman and Sergei Fedorov had three assists apiece.

With the scored tied, 1-1, the Red Wings reeled off goals by Kevin Miller, Ysebaert, Carson and Ysebaert again to take control.

Chicago 2, Toronto 0--Dominik Hasek recorded his first career shutout, making 21 saves as the Blackhawks beat the Maple Leafs at Chicago.

Hasek, a 27-year-old rookie who is 4-1-0, won his second in a row over Toronto.

Toronto goaltender Grant Fuhr made 42 saves, but the Blackhawks beat him on goals by Jeremy Roenick and Mike Hudson.

Boston 5, Quebec 4--Cam Neely scored his second goal of the game, his fifth in four games since returning from a leg injury, to break a tie as the Bruins got past the Nordiques at Boston.

Quebec’s winless streak on the road reached 26 games. The Nordiques are the only NHL team without a road victory this season (0-17-4) and are winless on the road since last March.

N.Y. Islanders 2, Hartford 1--Goals by Adam Creighton and David Volek led the Islanders past the Whalers at Uniondale, N.Y.

Steve Weeks preserved the victory with 17 saves in the final period, including exceptional plays against Bobby Holik and John Cullen in the final minutes.
