Assemblyman Lancaster Won’t Run in New District
Longtime Assemblyman William H. Lancaster (R-Covina) announced Friday that he will not seek reelection, ending the threat of an election battle with fellow Republican Assemblyman Richard L. Mountjoy (R-Monrovia).
Lancaster, who represents the 62nd District, and Mountjoy, who represents the 42nd District, have been placed in the same Assembly district in the reapportionment plan pending before the state Supreme Court. But Lancaster, who turned 60 last April, said redistricting was not a major factor in his decision. Instead, he said, he is quitting because it is time to do something else after serving in the Assembly since 1972.
“I’m not exactly sure what I’m going to do,” Lancaster said, but “there’s life after the Assembly.”
