TUSTIN : Council Authorizes New Stop Signs

Share

The Tustin City Council this week formally authorized the permanent placement of stop signs for several intersections where residents had complained of the danger posed by traffic.

The signs had been installed in an emergency action last month at the request of residents along Yorba and A streets.

Traffic studies conducted by the city staff had concluded that the signs were not warranted under state guidelines, but a traffic consultant the city hired told the council that it could approve the signs anyway.

John Said, whose wife, Paquita, was hit and killed by a vehicle last month as she was out walking the family dog, thanked the council for its action Monday.

The Said family and other area residents had packed the council chambers after Paquita Said’s death to request a stop sign in the neighborhood. Residents along A Street near 2nd and 3rd streets presented the council with a petition signed by more than 100 residents requesting measures to alleviate what they said has become a worsening problem with speeding cars.
