David L. Sokol has resigned as chairman, president and chief executive of California Energy Co., the independent geothermal-electricity producer that moved its headquarters last year from San Francisco to Omaha.

Company spokesman David Cox said Sokol was given an offer that was “just too good, unfortunately.”

Sokol will become a board member, president and CEO of JWP Inc., a $4-billion multinational technical services company based near White Plains, N.Y. He will remain on the board of California Energy.

Walter Scott Jr. will become California Energy chairman and CEO, and Richard Jaros will become president and chief operating officer. Both already serve on the board.

The company operates five geothermal plants, including one near the China Lake Naval Weapons Center.
