Father Agripino S. Brillantes Dies; Funeral Mass Wednesday

Father Agripino S. Brillantes, who served the Catholic Church in the United States and the Philippines for nearly half a century, died Sunday. He was 74.

Since coming to Southern California in 1973, Father Brillantes, who was ordained in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, in 1942, served as associate pastor at St. Hedwig in Los Alamitos, St. Joseph in Santa Ana and St. Joseph in Placentia. He retired in 1989.

“Father Brillantes was a very sensitive human being of a humble and self-effacing posture, a Christian gentleman and dedicated priest who served Christ and his church well in Southern California. I thank God for his life and ministry in our midst,” said Bishop Norman F. McFarland of the Diocese of Orange.

A funeral Mass will be said at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church in Placentia, and a graveside service will he held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Orange.
