County OKs Architects for Juvenile Hall Wing
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved the choice of an architectural firm to design a 160-room expansion of the San Fernando Valley Juvenile Hall, where overcrowding has made it commonplace for inmates to sleep on mattresses on the floor.
Rosser Fabrap/Silver & Ziskind, a San Francisco firm, was selected from seven applicants to design the new wing for up to $222,630.
The addition would include a dining room, classrooms and roof space that could be used for recreation. It could be completed by 1995 if future county and state funding is awarded as expected, county officials have said.
More than 500 juveniles are housed at the hall, located near the Foothill Freeway in Sylmar. The hall was originally built for 393.
