Police Seek Parents of Abandoned Infant
Los Angeles police detectives asked Tuesday for the parents or family of a baby girl abandoned in North Hollywood four days before Christmas to claim the child.
The infant was between three days and two weeks old when she was found Dec. 21 wearing an Olive View Medical Center nursery T-shirt and wrapped in a blanket, Detective Jeffrey L. Godown said.
The child had been left in the back of a Toyota pickup truck belonging to Dennis Barry of Burbank, police said. Barry had visited his parents in North Hollywood in the afternoon and discovered the baby when he returned to his home in Burbank, they said.
Detectives are checking hospital records and visiting the homes of mothers who delivered babies at Olive View Medical Center between Dec. 1 and Dec. 21 to determine if they have their infants.
“It’s unusual that someone would abandon a child on a residential street,” Godown said. “Babies are usually found abandoned in places where people won’t see them, like in the back of closed businesses.”
Police “believe the person resides in the neighborhood,” Godown said.
The baby girl was checked at Medical Center of North Hollywood and was given an clean bill of health, Godown said. The infant is being cared for by the county Department of Children’s Services.
