Woman Gets Jail Term for Broom Attack

A Palmdale woman was sentenced in Antelope Municipal Court on Thursday to 45 days in jail and three years’ probation for attacking another woman with a broom, and then threatening to kill her over an argument involving their 6-year-old daughters.

Priscilla Yvonne Gonzalez, 40, was also ordered to undergo psychiatric and emotional counseling.

A jury had deliberated for about three hours Monday before convicting Gonzalez of making a misdemeanor terroristic threat and assaulting Bozena Klune, 39, also of Palmdale.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Susan Mills, who prosecuted the case, said the incident occurred after a parent-teacher night at Cactus Elementary School on April 24, 1991.

Mills said Gonzalez was upset about a “perceived wrong” done to her daughter by Klune’s daughter. Mills said the nature of the dispute was unclear.

Gonzalez went to Klune’s house, knocked on the door, and flung it open as Klune walked up to it. Gonzalez then grabbed a broom that was sitting on the porch and swung at Klune’s head, striking her on the shoulder, Mills said. Klune told police that Gonzalez threatened to kill her and her family.

Gonzalez had told police that she had threatened Klune and her daughter with physical violence, but denied hitting Klune with the broom or threatening to kill them. Gonzalez, who remained free during the trial, is expected to appeal, Mills said.
