Good Deal on Flights Within Scandinavia

Share

SAS is offering a “Visit Scandinavia Fare” that can save money on air travel within or between Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

To take advantage of the program, travelers buy from one to six discount coupons for use on flights. Prices are $80 for one coupon, $160 for two, $230 for three coupons, $300 for four, $360 for five and $420 for all six.

The catch is that travelers have to fly round trip to Scandinavia on SAS to qualify for the program. Coupons are non-refundable, must be purchased in North America and are valid for three months starting with the first flight.

The standard round-trip economy fare between Stockholm and Oslo is $229. However, use of two coupons under the “Visit Scandinavia” program would reduce the fare to $160.

Another SAS program is aimed at transatlantic travelers flying to Scandinavia in business class who are then continuing on--either the same day or the next day--to any one of 17 other European countries or Israel. Those travelers are eligible for a complimentary three-day Kemwel rental car at their next destination that includes unlimited mileage plus all costs except gas. Participants must return their car to the same station where it was picked up, or pay drop-off charges. SAS will handle the car reservations.

Instead of the rental car, passengers may opt for a complimentary hotel room in Copenhagen or Stockholm, plus breakfast, dinner and round-trip airport transfer.

Another option for Scandinavia travelers is the Scanrail pass, which offers unlimited train travel within Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Participants can choose any four days out of a 15-day period to travel for $179 first-class, $145 second-class. For nine days of rail travel during a 21-day period, the price is $299 first-class, $239 second-class. For 14 days out of a one-month period, the pass costs $459 first-class, $349 second-class.

The passes, which have to be bought in the United States, are good for six months from the date of purchase. However, the 15-day, 21-day and monthlong passes start with the first use.
