Missing Teen Is Found After Night in Mountains
Searchers Monday found a teen-ager who had been missing overnight after he hiked into a rugged section of the San Gabriel Mountains near Azusa to take photographs, authorities said.
David Slayton, 19, of Azusa was found, apparently unharmed, about 7:20 a.m. by a helicopter crew, said Sheriff’s Department spokesman Gabe Ramirez. Slayton had left on a short hiking expedition by himself around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Mary Landreth. His parents reported him missing when he did not return about three hours later, she said.
About 20 searchers from several sheriff’s stations began looking for him around 7:30 p.m. and continued the search throughout the night, Landreth said.
