Woman, Teen-Age Girl Die After Shootings
A young woman and a teen-age girl, each found shot in the head and dumped 2 1/2 miles apart in Arleta and Mission Hills, have died as Los Angeles police continue to investigate the cases as possibly related.
The woman--identified Tuesday as Dawn McGrath, 21, of Mission Hills--was discovered by a motorist about 12:30 a.m. Monday in the 10300 block of Woodman Avenue near Devonshire Street in Mission Hills. McGrath was found lying in a gutter and died about 8:50 p.m. Monday at Holy Cross Medical Center, Lt. Bernard Conine said.
The younger victim, believed to be 12 to 16 years old, remained unidentified when she died at noon Tuesday, Conine said. Another motorist found her about 1 a.m. in the 9400 block of Arleta Avenue near Branford Street in Arleta, lying in the grass strip between the street and the sidewalk.
Conine said Tuesday that investigators have found evidence that she was sexually molested.
She was described as 5 feet tall, 120 pounds with an olive complexion and medium-length dark hair. She was wearing white jeans, a black, long-sleeved sweat shirt over a floral halter top, and white socks with black heels and toes, Conine said.
He said she also wore two rings--one with a double open heart and the other with an Indian design and a turquoise stone.
