Laid-Off Workers Sue Over Notice: About 300 employees left jobless when Victor Fine Foods closed its meat-processing plant in Lodi, Calif., charged in a suit that the company failed to give them 60 days’ notice as required by federal law. The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Sacramento seeks $2 million in damages for 60 days of lost wages and health benefits, said the employees’ attorney, James Eggleston. The meat-processing plant was a subsidiary of Fletcher Fine Foods of Canada. Workers said they were told that they were out of jobs either the day before or the day of the closing in December. No one from Victor Fine Foods was available for comment.
