Altadena : Bush, Fence Limit Reviewed

Share

The Town Council voted unanimously Tuesday to reject a committee’s recommendation that it request the county to ignore most homeowner violations of a longstanding law limiting the height of front-yard fences and bushes.

Instead, the council directed the committee to come up with other recommendations and requested that the county meanwhile stay outstanding citations.

The county began issuing citations to violators in response to neighbors’ complaints. Residents objected to the sudden enforcement of the 1963 law setting a height limit of 3 1/2 feet.

But on Tuesday, Ollie Blanning, senior field deputy for Supervisor Mike Antonovich, explained that although the county would prefer to leave residents alone, it could not legally ignore an offense once a complaint was entered.
