Pictures and plaques were stacked on the floor instead of hanging on the walls, and microphones were nonexistent, but officials at Lake Forest’s first City Council meeting in its new City Hall nonetheless were glad to be there.

Ready or not, Tuesday night was the grand opening of the newly incorporated city’s municipal facility. Although there were a few rough edges, city officials beamed with pride as they guided dozens of curious Lake Forest residents through rows of freshly painted offices.

“We’re here, finally,” said Councilman Tim Link, “and I thank you all for being here tonight.”

Orange County will continue to handle many city services until July 1, such as street and park maintenance. But most city functions will be handled out of City Hall, 23778 Mercury Road, in the Rockfield Showplace Shopping & Business Center. Only a handful of employees have been hired, but City Hall will be open for questions during normal business hours. Residents can call civic offices at (714) 707-5583.

After a series of short speeches and refreshments, the council got down to civic business, quickly polishing off a short agenda by 8:30 p.m.

Most of the city business was routine. National Bank, an Orange County-based firm, was selected as the city’s bank.
