NHL ROUNDUP : Moog Makes Bruins Look Good, 5-2

Share

Goaltender Andy Moog spent most of the last two seasons trying to convince the Boston Bruins that he deserved a two-year contract.

Management finally agreed, and Moog showed his appreciation with one of his finest performances Wednesday night at Toronto.

Moog stopped 37 shots and assisted on a goal to lead the Bruins to a 5-2 victory over the Maple Leafs. The victory was the Bruins’ fifth in a row, and it was Toronto’s seventh loss in 10 games.

“I just wanted to show them they didn’t make a mistake,” the 31-year-old veteran said. “Getting an assist was just a bonus.

The victory improved Moog’s record to 17-12-4.

Ray Bourque scored for the Bruins, putting him only six goals behind Bobby Orr on the all-time list. “I’ll probably pass him one of these days,” Bourque said. “But it doesn’t mean anything. If his knees had been healthy, I wouldn’t even be close to him.”

New York Rangers 4, Calgary 4--Defenseman Brian Leetch scored on a power play early in the last period at Calgary to give the Rangers a tie in the opener of their final trip west this season.

After Sergei Nemchinov scored to pull the Rangers even, 3-3, Gary Roberts put the Flames ahead again with 22 seconds left in the second period. Leetch took a pass from Mark Messier to score.
