In an attempt to thaw the frozen relationship between indoor and outdoor soccer factions, Earl Foreman, commissioner of the Major Soccer League, offered to help the APSL stave off collapse, but was rebuked.

In a telegram, Foreman proposed to field an MSL select team that would participate in the American Professional Soccer League’s summer outdoor schedule, alternating home games in each MSL city. Oscar Ancira, Sockers’ managing general partner told Foreman he would promote a game in San Diego.

It won’t happen. Bill Sage--president of the APSL, which dwindled to five teams when the Maryland Bays folded earlier this week--expressed contempt for indoor soccer when asked to comment on the proposal.

“They wouldn’t be a full-blown league member and I’m really not interested in any form of hybrid (soccer),” Sage told the Associated Press.
