Five people were injured early Sunday morning in a two-car crash on California 23 north of Moorpark, authorities said, and both drivers have been cited for driving under the influence.

About 2:15 a.m., Jaime Murguia, 23, of Simi Valley was driving with two passengers south on California 23, near Broadway, when he drifted off the road onto the dirt shoulder at a speed that exceeded the limit, the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP said Murguia overcorrected and hit a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction. The pickup was driven by George Budimir, 39, of Saugus.

Murguia and his front-seat passenger were thrown from the car because neither were wearing seat belts, the CHP said.

Budimir and Murguia both are in fair condition at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo, authorities said.

The passengers in both vehicles were taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. Salvador Martinez, 19, of Simi Valley was treated and released. Adrian Vargas, 19, of Simi Valley suffered head injuries and is in serious condition, a nursing supervisor said. Kerry Budimir, 35, of Saugus suffered back injuries and is in serious condition, the supervisor said.
