A man was stabbed to death after he reportedly entered a Pacific Beach home and struggled with a resident, police said.

The incident took place just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday when a man walked into the residence of Scott Alan McGervey in the 4000 block of Gresham Street, police spokesman Bill Robinson said. McGervey, 31, and his friend, Todd Leo Mero, 30, tried to detain the man and called police, Robinson said.

Before police could arrive, a struggle broke out between McGervey and the intruder, Robinson said. McGervey reportedly stabbed the man several times with a kitchen knife.

The man was found dead in the kitchen when police arrived, Robinson said. An investigation is pending and no arrests have been made, police said.

The coroner’s officer described the intruder as in his mid-20s, with brown hair and eyes, 5-foot-11, 170 pounds and dressed in a green plaid shirt, faded jeans and brown suede wingtip loafers.
