Honda Wins Off-Road Vehicle Suit: Jurors in Rancho Cucamonga have rejected a 27-year-old man’s contention that the design of a Honda all-terrain vehicle caused an accident that left him a paraplegic. The verdict ended a five-month trial of a multimillion-dollar lawsuit alleging that American Honda Motor Co. was negligent in selling the three-wheel cycle because its design was unsafe. Robert Jones, who filed the suit in San Bernardino County Superior Court, was paralyzed Aug. 10, 1986, when his ATC 200 was involved in an accident in Apple Valley. Jones wore no safety equipment at the time. Honda’s lawyers contended that he was negligent in driving the vehicle into a telephone pole guide-wire anchor after consuming alcohol.
