Mahony on Childbearing

Congratulations to Mahony for finally hitting on some middle ground that both he and I can agree on. Both Mahony and I would be very happy if no woman ever needed another abortion.

And this time he’s come up with a viable idea--change society to support women who make the choice to have their babies. He and I will vote together if legislation is proposed to support more guarantees for working women who choose to spend time with their children, more and safer alternatives for day care and stronger social safety nets for minors who become pregnant.

Mahony’s idea of improving women’s options so that they can bear children if they wish to is a vast improvement over the wrong-minded idea of removing women’s rights. With this positive approach, we all might just get what we really want--a country in which abortions are no longer needed.
