AMD to Unveil New Chip: Advanced Micro Devices Inc. said it will introduce a more powerful microprocessor by year’s end to compete with archrival Intel Corp.’s top-of-the-line personal computer “brains.” But analysts were skeptical about whether AMD’s upcoming 486 line of microprocessors for IBM-compatible machines would match the recent success of its hot-selling copycat 386 models.
